Hey Todd I know they Isles said they weren't interested in trading him but do you think Nino would be of any benefit to us and what they would want in return for him he could be like having a second first round pick would the price to get him outweigh what he would bring any thoughts

Great write up as usual, Todd! Who do you think we send down to bring Larsson up? Or even Butler? I gotta say, Tallinder played one heck of a game last night. I just don't see a reason to break any of this up, since it ain't broke!

Also, do you think Brodeur gets the nod in our game Friday night against the Caps as well as Sunday at Montreal?

This is most likely a troll comment...but do Brodeur's kids refer him to him as Uncle Martin or Daddy?

I don't like Teddy on the third line. His numbers last year were awful and it was because of him being a point-getting forward stuck playing a forecheck/crash role.

I think the Devils should package Teddy and a d-man to another team for either draft picks or someone who's capable of playing first line wing (not Zubrus... he's the one who should be on the third line) who could play a good support to Kovalchuk if Teddy isn't up to task. Edmonton have some forward talent (not necessarily Hemsky, but I'm looking more at Paajarvi or even Gagner) that they could relinquish for a steady d-man in NJ's system like Green (since I doubt anyone would want Zidlicky or Tallinder). Something tells me that they'll make good trade partners, as would the Kings who are looking for d help and could move a roster player over to the Devils with some dig/grit.

The Devils have too many NHL quality d-men in their system but it's hard for them to really deal for anyone that might offset their offensive chemistry right now (the last thing you want to do is acquire a liability). They might trade for a prospect forward or two to develop rather than sit on a cache of these guys, or they might end up alienating Larsson. Larsson is part of the Devils' future and should be playing either NHL or AHL games, not be a healthy scratch.

The Islanders would want a lot for him. I don't see him being moved.

Thanks for the kind words. Larsson will be back in the lineup soon enough, but like the saying goes "if it isn't broke, don't fix it."

As for Brodeur, I expect him to get both starts. He's played well and the games are spaced out so he will be rested.

When Henrique is back we will be a lot better off, and if darche signs that would be even better.

Either way we are still doomed.

What's up with Larsson?

What do you guys think? He needs to be playing, but is there just no spot for him right now?

we're hoping for a trade, most likely showcasing someone right now.

we never know with Lou, he did sit larsson for most of the playoffs too.

Andy Greene may end up getting moved to make space. Better if we could convince a team to take on the great Tallinder.

Shame we can't be trading partners.
Flyers D is a red hot mess right now.

I think that Harrold guy you have sitting would be an improvement here.

he would give you a bit more mobility and speed on the back and he is usually pretty smart with the puck

I just completed it last week.

To the Flyers fan, apparently Erik Gustafsson deserves a shot as he had high defense rating last year, but I looked it up and he's not in their line-up, still in the AHL. The Flyers may be sitting on a good 2nd pairing shut down guy. I think they're hurting from the loss of Carle.

I have 247 defenseman listed and Tallinder ranks overall (combined offense and defense) 245th. Zidlicky 166th. NJ's highest ranked is Salvador at 30th (7th in defensive play, would be 3rd highest if only applying defenders who played a full season). Fayne is 168th. Volenchkov 143rd. Greene 155th.

United we stand, divided we fall situation going on here. But this is mostly because they don't have a whole lot of offensive potential and are mostly steady d-zone guys. Zidlicky's numbers might go back up this year playing on a better team.

If I were to pick, I'd definitely send Tallinder elsewhere as he's not had his best years in Jersey, but seeing as GMs probably have the book on these guys, Fayne and Greene would be the trade bait.

I think Gusty does figure in their future plans as does Marc Andre Bourdon. Both are injured, Gusty with an ankle and Bourdon out with post concussion symptoms.

Bourdon is the more physical shut down type, Gusty has more speed and offense. Both seem like #4-6 guys at best, but who knows.

Anthony Mantha looks like he will be a good pick for the draft probably have to trade up to get him but a skilled winger with size the season is young though so maybe not but id like to think we will be drafting somewhere in the 20-25 range if our season goes well maybe better

Well if a d-man is a good puck handler and is responsible, could be what makes the difference in the +/- column. Lidstrom never needed to lay guys out to be a good d-man. I didn't know Gusty was injured; that would explain his absense. I also think they have new faces like Schenn that need to be integrated into the system.

As for Harrold, I think the Devils are probably holding on to him in case one of their guys goes down or is playing inconsistently.

That third line is tiny, if those are what our lines are going to look like. We either need a top 6 winger, or a 3rd line winger with size, similar to Poni.

I love Harrold. He's the perfect 7th defenseman. A guy you can rely on, you can play him at forward if you need him, he brings a good amount of offense, you can play him on the PP, and if need be, he played some PK last year.

It seems like DeBoer's system was a perfect fit for him, and he thrived last year.

Even though the Devils are 2-0 they need to make a trade for a few reasons....for one they can't keep Larsson glued to the bench much longer plus Harrold deserves a shot playing. He had a very good run last year with the Devils, smart player with good mobility. Another reason, and yes I know we are missing Henrigue, the Devils are playing with 2 lines that are really 4th lines on most teams. Carter, Gio-lite and Bernier should be our 4th line like last year not on the 3rd line. They need to have JJ step up to the 3rd line maybe with with Matteau and Zubrus. Tedneby can't play in a checking role. Keep him with skilled players (if he does play 3rd line at least put him with JJ). Janssen and/or Barch are useless and the Devils proved it last year in the playoffs when your BEST players need to play.

Hopefully a trade involving a defenseman (Tallinder or Greene) and a prospect to bring in a top 6 forward (Hemsky?)...lines should look something like this...

Zubrus/Tedneby Zajac Kovy
Elias Henrique Hemsky (just picking a name here)
Zubrus/Tedneby JJ Clarkson
Carter/Matteau* Gio-lite Bernier

* I have a feeling Matteau will be sent down (even though I hope not)
